Equity Prevents Violence officially launched their public appeal on Tuesday, November 22nd! A great mix of people attended the event including committee members, donors, and members of the community. We heard from Tricia Currie, of Women’s Health Loddon Mallee, and Claire Flanagan-Smith, spokesperson for Equity Prevents Violence, who spoke of the prevalence of violence in our region and how exciting it is to have an initiative that is tackling the problem at its roots. Donors were also given the opportunity to be photographed with our Disc in order to show their support.
Violence against women can be traced back to the gender inequalities, norms, and stereotypes that exist in our society. We aim to end violence against women by supporting local grass roots organisations and projects in our community that target these issues. We are raising funds during the 16 Days of Activism, beginning November 25 until December 10. Community Foundation for Central Victoria and Women’s Health Loddon Mallee have each contributed $6,000 to our $18,000. You can help by donating during the 16 Days of Activism and take part in ending violence against women.
